Gas Drilling Likely Caused Ohio Quake

Ohio suspends drilling after tremors.

A seismologist investigating a series of minor earthquakes in Ohio says they were almost certainly caused by a well used to dispose of wastewater from oil and gas drilling. There were 11 earthquakes near the site, with the last and largest being magnitude 4.0 on Saturday. State officials said they believed a buildup of pressure from wastewater injected into the well, which is near a fault line, triggered the earthquakes. The wells have been shut down, but the investigating seismologist says the tremors will likely continue for some time.
