Newt Gingrich’s campaign strategy the past couple of weeks has been simply to attack Mitt Romney’s record as CEO of Bain Capital from every angle, releasing ad after ad accusing the business man-turned-politician of being greedy, ruthless and worse than Wall Street. Romney is certainly sick of the attacks and he’s not the only one. At a book signing in South Carolina Wednesday, a Rick Santorum supporter asked Newt Gingrich to cut it with the Bain attacks. When a South Carolina Army Reservist—and Santorum supporter—told Gingrich to “lay off the corporatist versus the free market,” Gingrich surprised many by answering “I agree with you” and then telling his campaign spokesman to back off the Bain criticism. However, the pro-Gingrich super PAC “Winning Our Future” is still slated to flood South Carolina airwaves with ads—many of which slam Romney’s Bain work based on a short documentary posted online this week.
