Personhood USA, the group that seeks to define human embryos as legal persons, said Tuesday it would go to the U.S. Supreme Court after a citizen-led ballot initiative in Oklahoma was struck down by that state's Supreme Court. The ballot initiative had been challenged by the Center for Reproductive Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union, among others; the court ruled the initiative unconstitutional on Monday. Separately in Oklahoma, a personhood bill had recently passed the state Senate but failed in the House when the lower chamber refused to bring it to a vote. Personhood USA President Keith Mason said he sees the recent developments as a "momentum builder."
