Fareed Zakaria Suspended from Time and CNN

What’s with the sudden onslaught of unethical journalism? CNN host and Time columnist Fareed Zakaria was suspended for a month by the magazine on Friday after admitting to “close similarities” in his column this week on gun control and Jill Lepore’s essay in the April 23 issue of The New Yorker. CNN has suspended Zakaria for as long as the matter is “under review.” The conservative media watchdog group Newsbusters pointed out nearly identical paragraphs in Zakaria’s and Lepore’s pieces. Zakaria issued a public apology for making “a terrible mistake.” Time in turn accepted Zakaria’s apology but said “what he did violates our own standards for our columnist and announced suspension of his column for one month “pending further review.”
