More than 40 hours after the state’s polls closed on election night, the Obama campaign claimed victory in Florida Thursday. “I wish President Barack Obama congratulations on his reelection and on winning Florida’s 29 electoral votes,” Florida’s Democratic Party chair said in a statement. While Romney himself has yet to comment, his adviser Brett Doster told The Miami Herald “We thought, based on our polling and range of organization, that we had done what we needed to win [in Florida] ... Obviously, we didn’t.” Though ballots are still being counted, there aren’t enough votes left in Republican areas for Romney to catch up—Obama led Romney 49.9 percent to 49.3 percent, or by about 52,000 votes. The final Electoral College tally has Obama with 332 votes to Romney’s 206.
