Congress is primed to face off on gun control laws in the wake of public pressure since the massacre in Newtown, Conn. On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Sen. Lindsey Graham said the focus should be on mental health and school security, rather than banning assault rifles. “I don’t suggest you take my right to buy an AR-15 away from me, because I don’t think that it will work,” he said. Later, Sen. Charles Schumer said trying to reduce gun violence without restricting the purchasing of them would be “like trying to prevent lung cancer without talking about cigarettes.” Last week, the White House drafted a list of proposed gun-law changes, and advocates say some of these could be put into play without Congress’s approval.
