Study: Preference for Youth Caused Menopause

Feel free to blame your husbands for those menopausal hot flashes, ladies. New research suggests that men's preference for younger women may have led females to lose fertility as they age. A group from McMaster University in Canada experimented with the concept that women live longer than their reproductive lifespans, even though it's long been believed individuals should not. When the researchers tested how change in mating systems affected population growth, they found men constantly picked younger women as mates, and theorized that it harmed fertility in older women, who later came to experience menopause.
