Less then ten minutes into the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race, Danish Racer Allan Simonsen was killed when his car crashed into a safety barrier at high speed. He was treated on the scene, but died from his injuries soon after in the circuit's medical center. Simonsen is one of the the most experienced racers in motorsports; it was his seventh time participating in the endurance race. His Aston Martin teammates will continue on "in tribute to Allan," according to a statement from the team's sponsor. Today was a sad day for racers: two-time champion Wolf Silvester also died, reportedly from a heart attack during the German VLN Endurance Racing Championship.
