ABC's The View will get a controversial new addition. Barbara Walters, who will herself be leaving the show next year, announced that the model, actress, and vocal anti-vaccine campaigner Jenny McCarthy will be replacing Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who is moving to Fox, in September. Rumors that McCarthy might replace Hasselbeck elicited a storm of criticism against ABC for giving her a forum to promote her belief that vaccines cause autism. Walters didn't address the criticism in her announcement, saying only that "she can be serious and outrageous" and "offers a fresh point of view."
