Daft Punk appeared at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday night, but they didn’t perform—despite having infamously canceled on The Colbert Report earlier this month due to a “surprise” planned performance. Colbert spilled the beans about the VMA appearance after Colbert received a letter from MTV president Van Toffler saying the band would perform exclusively at the VMAs—the day before the planned performance. Later, Colbert revealed how many negotiations went into booking the reclusive group. In the end, Robin Thicke performed “Blurred Lines” and Colbert also arranged a (delightful) dance-along to “Get Lucky” with various celebrities, such as Hugh Laurie, Matt Damon, and, craziest of all, Henry Kissinger.
