A spiritual leader in India has been arrested on charges that he raped a 16-year-old girl when she visited his Jodhpur retreat weeks ago. Asaram Bapu has hundreds of thousands of followers, among them the girl’s family who has followed him for over a decade. Asaram denies the charges, calling the girl “mentally unstable.” The guru recently angered many Indians when he said that that the victim of the Dehli bus gang rape might not have been brutally attacked and killed if she had called them brothers and begged them to spare her.
