After taking a leave of absence, Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the Tea Party scandal, is reportedly retiring. Lerner was in charge of the IRS division that vetted applicants for tax-exempt status. Earlier this year, the agency admitted that agents in Lerner’s division targeted Tea Party and other conservative groups for extra scrutiny. Lerner refused to answer questions at a congressional hearing and went on paid leave. Several publications say congressional aides have said Lerner will officially step down.
