Wait, is Julian Assange not a Cumberbitch? WikiLeaks published the script to the upcoming film The Fifth Estate, which chronicles Assange’s life and the founding of WikiLeaks. “Most of the events never happened, or the people shown were not involved in them,” reads the WikiLeaks posting about the film. In a lengthy memo, WikiLeaks refutes the film’s depiction pretty much point by point. The screenplay, written by Josh Singer, is partly based on the book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange and the World’s Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, an early WikiLeaks collaborator who has since had a bitter falling-out with Assange. The filmmakers and Benedict Cumberbatch reached out to Assange during the filming of the movie, but Assange declined.
