Given the season the Knicks are having, it’s no surprise that Madison Square Garden might be looking for new talent. Billy Joel will be the arena’s first-ever musical franchise, making him MSG’s fourth pillar, along with the Knicks, Rangers, and the Liberty, it announced Tuesday. Joel and the Garden have a storied history: He holds the record for the most shows in a sustained run (12, in 2006), and he has played the Garden 46 times since 1978. Joel has announced five concert dates for 2014, including one on May 8, his 65th birthday.
