When you’re convicted of murder in Italy and then suddenly found near the border of Austria, it looks a little suspicious. Raphaelle Sollecito, Amanda Knox’s ex-boyfriend who, along with Knox, was found guilty this week in the murder of Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher, insists he was not trying to escape Italy when police arrested him in a border town. He told NBC, “As soon as I got the news there was a guilty verdict…I came right immediately back [to] Italy.” Sollecito says he was on a previously planned trip to Austria and was simply carrying out his itinerary. Sollecito had been in court on Thursday but left when the appeals panel adjourned to deliberate charges.
