Britain’s High Court ruled police acted legally when they detained Glenn Greenwald’s partner, David Miranda. Greenwald broke Edward Snowden’s National Security Agency leaks. In August, Miranda was detained at Heathrow Airport by British police, who interrogated him for hours and seized encrypted devices that he was carrying. Despite the contention by Miranda and his lawyers that the police actions violated his freedom of expression, Lord Justice John Laws said the detention “was a proportionate measure in the circumstances” and that its objective “was not only legitimate, but very pressing.”
