New documents from Edward Snowden show that the National Security Agency breached the servers of Huawei, a Chinese telecom giant that boasts of serving a third of the world's population. The hacking came at the same time the U.S. government blocked Huawei from business deals in the United States, arguing that its equipment could become “back doors” for Chinese military hackers to steal secrets. The goal of the NSA’s operation was to find connections between Huawei and the People’s Liberation Army, but also planned to break into Huawei's equipment sold to other countries and conduct cyber warfare if ordered by the president.
