Students aboard the South Korean ferry that sunk last week evidently deferred to the ship's crew and elders who told them to stay below deck. Passengers were reportedly told to stay in their cabins even after many crew members abandoned ship. The first distress call was made from a teenage boy, not the crew. “Save us! We’re on a ship and I think it’s sinking,” he said. That boy is now among the missing. Some 108 people are confirmed dead, and 194 are still considered missing.
