Forty-two people were killed on a Navajo reservation in 2013, more than the rate of larger cities like Seattle and Boston, and rising from 34 the year before. With only 180,000 residents spread across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, it's much higher than the national average of 4.7 per 100,000 (last measured in 2012). The violence represents the economic problems and issue of alcoholism that the reservation struggles with.
