British scientist Richard Dawkins is defending his classification of some types of rape as “worse” than others. On Tuesday, the famous atheist advocate author of The God Delusion, tweeted “Date rape is bad. Stranger rape at knifepoint is worse. If you think that's an endorsement of date rape, go away and learn how to think.” Dawkins said he proceeded to receive a “tsunami of hate,” but has no plans of apologizing for remarks that can be read as making light of date rape. On his website, Dawkins did state that he was “emphatically not trying to hurt rape victims or trivialise their awful experience.” He added that he really does “care passionately about reason and logic.”
