At least two people were killed and four injured Friday morning when a shooter opened fire at Washington state’s Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The school, located about 35 miles north of Seattle, is in lockdown. The suspect, according to police sources who spoke to a reporter from the Seattle Times, was a student and died of a self-inflicted gunshot after opening fire in the school cafeteria. An emergency-room nurse at Providence Regional Hospital confirmed that four patients arrived with gunshot wounds. Three of the victims were shot in the head and are listed in critical condition. The fourth victim, a 14-year-old boy, was transferred to Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the jaw. He is listed in serious condition. Students were evacuated out of the school once it was deemed safe and taken to a local church where parents could pick them up.

The shooter was identified by his family as 14-year-old Jaylen Fryberg, a football player at the school who was crowned freshman homecoming prince just last week. It is believed he used a .40-caliber Beretta handgun. A message posted to Fryberg’s Twitter account on Thursday night read, “It won’t last... it will never last.” Fryberg, a member of the Tulalip tribe, had been recently suspended after being involved in an altercation with another student. A student on Friday said Fryberg seemed happy and was seen talking to fellow students in the hours before the shooting.
