Two window washers at the new World Trade Center were rescued Wednesday after being trapped on scaffolding that was dangling 69 stories off the ground. The scaffolding malfunctioned shortly before 1pm. Around 2 p.m., construction workers were seen cutting a hole in a window and pulling the stranded window washers to safety. The glass windows of the new World Trade Center building are unusually strong and can bear the weight of about two cars, so breaking through them was, presumably, quite difficult. The building opened for business last week for the first time since the original World Trade Towers was destroyed 13 years ago.
