Cop’s Restraint Move Killed Black Woman

BRUTE

Cleveland coroner rules homicide.

Tanisha Anderson, a 37-year-old black woman, died after being physically restrained in a prone position by a Cleveland police officer, the medical examiner’s office announced Friday. An internal police investigation has not determined if the officer’s use of force was necessary. Anderson was taken down by police on Nov. 13 and an officer put his knee on her back as she lay face-down after she got out of a police car. She had been reported by her parents for disturbing the peace and was being taken in for a mental-health evaluation. An investigation by the Justice Department in 2014 found that the Cleveland Police Department systematically engages in excessive use of force against civilians.
