According to a senior Yemeni intelligence source, the eldest of two brothers suspected of the attack on Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris met with U.S.-born al-Qaeda preacher Anwar al Awlaki during a trip to Yemen in 2011. U.S. and European sources who spoke with Reuters say that 34-year-old Said Kouachi met Awlaki during a months-long trip to train with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Awlaki, who was killed in a drone strike in 2011, was linked to the “Underwear Bomber” plot to blow up a flight over Detroit in 2009 and Nidal Hassan’s killing of 13 at Fort Hood in 2009.
