Saddiz Al-Abbadi and Ali Alvi, both Yemeni nationals, have been charged with conspiring to murder Americans abroad and for providing material support to al Qaeda, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday. The two were arrested in Saudi Arabia and sent to the U.S. Al-Abbadi will appear in federal court in Brooklyn on Tuesday. “Al-Abbadi and Alvi are both members of al Qaeda who engaged in attacks against United States military forces stationed in Afghanistan,” the DOJ said in a press release. It also alleges that Al-Abbadi fought against the U.S. in Iraq. Included in a long list of actions, in 2008 the two traveled to tribal areas in Pakistan to train with al Qaeda and helped a U.S. citizen join the terrorist organization.
