MLB Commish May Lift Pete Rose Ban

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said Monday he will consider Pete Rose’s request to be reinstated “on its merits.” It marks the first glimmer of hope for Rose, who has been banned from Major League Baseball since 1989 after claims he gambled on games, including his own Cincinnati Reds, came to light. Two previous league commissioners, Bud Selig and Fay Vincent, dismissed Rose’s petitions to lift his ban without any consideration. “I want to hear what Pete has to say, and I’ll make a decision once I’ve done that,” said Manfred. As part of being banned from baseball, Rose, the all-time leader in hits, has been barred from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
