Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is calling for an investigation into the use of force during the arrest of a black student at the University of Virginia early Wednesday morning, after which Martese Johnson required 10 stitches in his head. Police charged Johnson with obstruction of justice without force and public swearing or intoxication. According to Bryan Beaubrun, a student who was with Johnson during the incident, an officer grabbed Johnson’s hand and pulled him over to talk after the student was rejected from a bar near campus. Some reports suggested he had tried to use a fake ID. After Johnson tried to wrest his hand away, Beaubrun says several officers pushed him to the ground, bloodying his head.
