Lawyer: UVA Student Didn’t Have Fake ID

INJUSTICE

According to lawyer.

An attorney for the University of Virginia student who was beaten bloody after being charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice says the young man did not have a fake ID card and is a well-respected leader at the college. Martese Johnson, a member of the UVA honor committee, was arrested Wednesday outside of a bar by three alcohol-control officers who allegedly pinned him to the ground and bumped his head against the pavement, producing a gash that required 10 stitches. “As the officers held me down, one thought raced through my mind: How could this happen? My head lay bloody, but unbowed,” Johnson said in a statement read by his lawyer.
