Police and forestry officers in India killed 20 loggers suspected of illegally cutting down endangered trees on Tuesday. Police said the loggers were cutting down red sandalwood trees, which can sell for as much as $320,000 per ton. Police said the 20 were part of a “large group of smugglers” who refused to surrender and then wounded six officers before being killed.
