Journo Charged a Year Later in Ferguson

A reporter from the Washington Post who was arrested at a McDonald's last year while reporting on protests in Ferguson, Mo., has been formally charged in St. Louis County with trespassing and interfering with a police officer, signaling a blow to press freedom. Wesley Lowery has been ordered to appear in court on Aug. 24 and could be arrested if he declines to do so. Lowery, along with the Huffington Post’s Ryan Reilly, were detained in a McDonald’s while covering the unrest in Ferguson that followed the death of an unarmed black teenager at the hands of a white police officer. Reilly is expected to receive a court summons on the same charges, according to a St. Louis County executive.
