The NYPD on Friday released video footage of James Blake’s being taken down by a plainclothes police officer on Wednesday. The officer can be seen running up to Blake and pushing him to the ground. The officer was taken off the streets after slamming the black former tennis star to the ground, mistakenly believing him to be a criminal. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton apologized for to Blake on Thursday. Blake said he suffered cuts and bruises. The white officer said he mistook Blake, who is black, for a black suspect involved in an identity-theft ring. “Blake looked remarkable to the suspect we were searching for, they could have been twin brothers,” Bratton said Thursday.
