During Wednesday night’s first GOP debate, Rick Santorum compared Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis to teenage girl Cassie Bernall, who was killed in the Columbine massacre. His anecdote was about how Bernall was a Christian martyr who was killed after saying she believed in God. However, it has been previously reported that this is not true. Investigators and student witnesses later said that Valeen Schnurr answered “yes,” when asked if she believed in God before being shot. Schnurr survived the massacre.
