Pope Francis declared Junipero Serra a saint in a historic mass in Washington D.C. Wednesday. The first canonization on U.S. soil has led to protests from the Native-American community at the site of Serra's burial. Serra was a theologian known for spreading Christianity in California but is also controversial for his treatment of Native Americans under his leadership.
