Saudi Arabia executed a Shi’ite Muslim cleric on Saturday along with dozens of individuals convicted of al Qaeda attacks in the country a decade ago. In total 47 people were killed in 12 different cities by firing squad or beheadings. The bodies were then hung from gibbets. Nimr al-Nimr, the cleric who was killed, was accused of shooting police officers in recent anti-government protests. This is the biggest mass execution in the country since 1980.
