Fighting between Indian soldiers and armed militants continued into Sunday. At least seven Indian soldiers and four gunmen have been killed this weekend after suspected militants entered an Indian air force base close to the Pakistan border. The four gunmen entered the base around 3 a.m. on Saturday and were killed after a long gun battle. But two more gunmen were found hiding in Pathankot air base around noon on Sunday, and the fighting resumed. Some report that those two militants were killed, but this has not been confirmed by officials.

The attack comes a week after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – a move which many said would improve the embittered relationship between the two nations. Now, with this attack in mind, some wonder whether the visit has made a difference on the ground. Pakistan has condemned the attack.
