Internal emails acquired by the Associated Press indicate that high-ranking officials in Rick Snyder's administration were aware of an uptick in Legionnaires’ disease—which they believed was linked to poisoned drinking water throughout the state—well in advance of informing the public of its spread. Snyder said he was aware of the spike in the disease on Jan. 13, but the emails reveal that he knew about the outbreak since last March. The outbreak was also well-known within state agencies, according to emails.
