North Korea has executed its army chief of staff, Ri Yong Gil, according to reports out of South Korea. Reuters called the decision—if true—the latest in a series of disappearances and executions under Kim Jong Un’s leadership. Anonymous sources confirmed the move to the news agency, but Reuters was unable to independently verify the report. Ri was chief of the Korean People’s Army General Staff, and South Korean media reported that he was executed for corruption and conspiracy. The North reportedly executed its defense chief just last May with an antiaircraft gun at a firing range.
