The Food and Drug Administration will re-evaluate regulations around the term “healthy,” which is a designation only given when products meet certain requirements. Changing guidelines would affect a range of issues, including how foods are able to market themselves. Spokeswoman Lauren Kotwicki said Tuesday that “now is an opportune time to re-evaluate the regulations concerning nutrition content claims, generally, including the term ‘healthy.’” The FDA will solicit public input on the regulations “in the near future,” she said. The House of Representatives said in a report last month that it expects the agency to make amendments based on “significant scientific agreement.”
