Despite George Zimmerman’s proclamations, the Smithsonian Institution never expressed interest in purchasing the handgun he used to shoot and kill Trayvon Martin four years ago. Zimmerman’s auction page for the 9mm pistol claimed the D.C. museum was among several places that wanted to buy it, “but the offers were to use the gun in a fashion I did not feel comfortable with.”
We have never expressed interest in collecting George Zimmerman’s firearm, and have no plans to ever collect or display it in any museums
