ISIS Kills 12 in Fifth Straight Day of Iraq Attacks

The Islamic State has continued a five-day spree of attacks on urban Iraqi areas with a suicide bombing at a gas plant on Sunday, bringing the death toll since Wednesday to more than 120 people. Sunday’s attack on the gas plant north of Baghdad began at dawn with a car bomb at the facility. Eight suicide bombers then burst in and blew themselves up after clashing with security, apparently an attempt to inflict maximum damage by hitting the facility’s gas tanks. At least 12 people were killed. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, as the group turns its focus to urban areas to make up for losses elsewhere. Eighty-eight people in Baghdad were killed in a spate of attacks on Wednesday, followed by further violence in Abu Ghraib on Thursday, and a bombing in Balad on Friday that killed 13.
