German newspaper Bildreported that a masked gunman with an ammunition belt opened fire at a movie theater in Viernheim, Germany—near Frankfurt—on Thursday. Public television said that at least 25 people were wounded and the alleged gunman has barricaded himself inside. German police spokeswoman Christiane Kobus confirmed a "threat situation" to local reporters but gave no further details, The Telegraph reported. Germany's interior minister has said the masked suspect was shot dead. But later reports indicated that some may have been wounded by the result of a release of tear gas in a confined space. It was unclear if the tear gas was allegedly emitted by authorities or by the suspect. An AP news alert reportedly claimed that no one was injured by the alleged gunman.
