The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the use of racial preferences in undergraduate admissions in the University of Texas system. In a 4-3 decision, the court reaffirmed the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Fisher v. Texas. All in-state students who graduated in the top 10 percent of their high-school class are automatically admitted; the remaining students may continue to be evaluated in part by using race.
