During an appearance this week on the Brown and Scoop podcast, Ben Carson joked that his mother would have shot journalists during his presidential run.

“My mother is still alive by the way,” Carson told the hosts, who’d asked about her in the past tense. “She has Alzheimer’s. She’s not really cognizant of that, which is a good thing because my mother is really a fighter. She probably would have taken a gun and gone out and shot some of the dishonest reporters.”

Carson was also asked about a moment during a Republican debate in which he was confronted by a reporter who asked him to finish the rap lyric: “If Young Metro don’t trust you...” At the time, Carson was confused by the random question and still seemingly didn’t know what the reporter meant.

“Have you been in the spin room after a debate? There are hundreds of reporters," Carson said. “They all ask you questions.” At the time, Carson erroneously completed the lyric by saying: “Then you probably need to either become honest or be able to explain the reason for their doubts.”
