According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez fired the shots that killed Philando Castile, 32, Wednesday evening during a traffic stop. Yanez is a four-year veteran of the department and, according to officials Thursday night, he approached the driver’s side of Castile’s vehicle after pulling him over for a broken taillight. “At one point during the interaction, Officer Yanez discharged his weapon, striking Castile multiple times,” the BCA said in a statement. “No one else was injured.” The agency also identified officer Joseph Kauser as having taken part in the traffic stop gone awry.
