In response to the terror attack in Nice, France, that left at least 84 people dead, loyal Trump supporter and potential Republican vice-presidential pick Newt Gingrich suggested the United States test every Muslim living in the country and deport those who believe in Islam’s Sharia laws. “Let me be as blunt and direct as I can be,” the former speaker of the House told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “Western civilization is at war. We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported.” He added of the inherently controversial and outwardly bigoted proposal: “Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization. Modern Muslims, who have given up Sharia, [we are] glad to have them as citizens.” Gingrich also said it should be a felony for anyone to visit a website “favoring ISIS or al Qaeda.”
