French-Tunisian delivery driver Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel has been identified by French police as the terrorist who drove a truck through Bastille Day crowds in Nice, France, killing at least 84 people and injuring several hundred others. Bouhlel has a wife and three children but lived alone. One neighbor told the press he was “more into women than religion.” Others described him variously as rude, weird, and a loaner. Bouhlel was “known to the police for assault with a weapon, domestic violence, threats and robbery but had no previous convictions for terrorism,” The Telegraph reported. Police reportedly found a pistol, a long gun, and fake weapons such as grenades in the 19-ton truck.
According to French outlet BFM-TV, Bouhlel was once arrested for falling asleep behind the wheel while on the job, and had also been convicted of robbery and domestic violence. While he had no known connections to terror groups, one neighbor said he often ranted about his wife and his marital issues. Others claimed he was more concerned with dating than religion.
