FBI Obtains Warrant, Could Take Weeks to Read New Emails

Law-enforcement officials confirmed to multiple outlets late Sunday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had obtained a warrant to begin reviewing newly discovered emails that may be relevant to the probe of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server. It reportedly could take weeks to scour through around 650,000 emails contained on top Clinton aide Huma Abedin’s estranged husband Anthony Weiner’s laptop, although exact estimates have varied. FBI Director James Comey announced last Friday that the agency had found new emails relating to its probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email server, and subsequent reports have indicated they were recovered as part of the investigation into Weiner’s sexting allegations. Metadata contained on the computer suggest thousands of messages were sent to or from Clinton’s private server. The FBI is also tasked with determining whether some of the emails are duplicates of messages they already reviewed, and whether there is any classified information.
