Aides to Donald Trump do not let him tweet anymore, according to a New York Times story which details Trump’s behind-the-scenes demeanor as the campaign winds down. While Trump publicly shows he is confident in an Election Day victory, the Times writes that Trump is privately expressing worry about his chances of defeating Hillary Clinton, and always asks for his aides to be talking to him into the night so that he is not “alone with his thoughts.”
Indeed, the insults and other musings that have been a hallmark of the Republican nominee’s Twitter account have lessened in frequency in recent weeks. The account is now primarily used for promoting rallies and sharing campaign videos and photos, in addition to pro-Trump articles from sites like Breitbart.
“Taking away Twitter turned out to be an essential move by his press team, which deprived him of a previously unfiltered channel for his aggressions,” the Times reporters wrote.
At a rally in Florida, President Obama jokingly brought up the issue, telling the crowd: “In the last two days, they had so little confidence in his self-control, they said we’re just going to take away your Twitter. Now, if somebody can’t handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes.”
A Trump campaign spokeswoman did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment on Trump’s control over his Twitter account.
