Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Steve Bannon is a leading candidate to become Trump’s White House chief of staff, The New York Times reported on Thursday. Bannon is the former executive chairman of alt-right, vehemently pro-Trump website Breitbart News, and had originally suggested he’d like return to the website following the campaign. Bannon’s lead competition for the White House gig, however, the Times reported, is current RNC chairman Reince Priebus, who is liked by both Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner; and his close relationship to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Vice President-elect Mike Pence are seen as bonuses as the GOP looks to reunite following a divisive and oftentimes ugly presidential primary battle.
