The Swedish Academy announced Wednesday morning that Bob Dylan will not travel to Stockholm next month to pick up his 2016 Nobel Prize for literature. Dylan had initially given the Nobel-dispensing academy the cold shoulder upon first learning that he’d won the prestigious prize. The Academy said, however, that the legendary songwriter had sent them a “personal letter” expressing his remorse at being unable to attend “due to pre-existing commitments.” Additionally, he wrote that he was “honored” to have been awarded the prize. Though he will not be in Stockholm for the ceremony, Dylan is required to give a Nobel lecture between now and June 2017.
